New publication by Alexandre Tessier in Experimental Mechanics
Alexandre Tessier, a doctoral student directed by Yves St-Amant and co-directed by Denis Thibault, a researcher at Hydro-Québec, has just published an article in Experimental Mechanics. He presents an innovative methodology for experimentally identifying the structural behaviour of turbine runners in operation.
Alexandre’s work is based on exciting the Tr-Francis runner using piezoelectric actuators and measuring the resulting vibrations with strain gauges, all while the turbine is running. The article demonstrates how such measurements provide a better understanding of the effects of flow in the runner on its natural frequencies and vibration damping.
